Cerro Penitentes, 4300m

The objective: cerro penitentes, named for it's spikey features seen above. The summit is actually above the rock formations, seen barely in the top-left part of the photo.

I'm glad I chose to read "Touching the Void" on a relatively easy mountaineering trip.

It's nice to have a little hot tang every once in awhile.

Caballeros y caballeras, les presento the south face of Aconcagua. That's right: 3000m of relief, and it ain't no day hike.

The prominent, glaciated peak on the left is Tupungato, a 6,650m volcano on the Argentine-Chilean border. One of these days...

Unfortunately, crampons were not needed.
